Auto-Update System: How It Works
Sera plugins include a built-in auto-update system that delivers updates through the standard WordPress update mechanism.
How Updates Work
- WordPress periodically checks for plugin updates (every 12 hours by default)
- Sera's update checker contacts sera.guru with your plugin version and license key
- If a newer version is available and your license is valid, the update appears in Dashboard > Updates
- Click Update Now to install the latest version
Automatic Background Updates
WordPress supports automatic background updates for plugins. To enable:
- Go to Plugins in your WordPress admin
- Find the Sera plugin
- Click Enable auto-updates
Or enable for all Sera plugins at once from Sera > Settings > Updates.
Manual Update Check
Force an immediate update check:
- Go to Sera > License
- Click Check for Updates
This bypasses the 12-hour WordPress cache and checks sera.guru directly.
Update Requirements
Updates require:
- Active license key β Expired licenses do not receive updates
- Internet connectivity β Your server must be able to reach sera.guru
- Write permissions β WordPress needs write access to the plugins directory
Rollback
If an update causes issues:
- Sera keeps a backup of the previous version
- Go to Sera > Settings > Updates
- Click Rollback next to the problematic plugin
- The previous version will be restored
Update Notifications
Sera sends update notifications through:
- WordPress admin dashboard notice
- Sera Alert Center (if Sera Core is installed)
- Email notification (if configured in Sera > Settings > Notifications)
